Goodman AC installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $3,500 to $7,500 depending on the system size, efficiency rating, and how much ductwork or electrical work is involved. Most installations take one full day, though jobs involving new duct runs or a relocation of the air handler can stretch into a second morning. We give you a written price before any work starts, so the number you agree to is the number you pay.
This page is for Fort Lauderdale homeowners who either own a Goodman already and need it replaced, or who are comparing Goodman against Carrier, Trane, and Lennox and want straight answers from a crew that installs all four. Victor Mancini and our technicians have been turning wrenches on Goodman equipment in South Florida for years. Call (754) 354-7289 and a live person answers, day or night.
How Goodman Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Goodman builds a solid, value-priced unit, and we install a lot of them in Fort Lauderdale. But every line has its habits. Here are the failure patterns we see most often on Goodman equipment in this climate, and what we do about them.
- Condensate drain clogs on the GSX series. Fort Lauderdale humidity means your AC pulls gallons of water out of the air every day. On Goodman GSX13 and GSX14 condensers paired with older air handlers, we regularly see drain pans overflowing because the primary drain line was never flushed and algae built up inside the PVC. The fix is a full drain line flush, a float switch check, and on replacement installs, we run the drain with a deeper pitch than the original. It sounds small, but that algae is the reason half the water-damaged ceilings we see in Victoria Park and Sailboat Bend exist.
- Capacitor fatigue on older GSC and GSX units. The capacitor is the little cylinder that gives the compressor and fan motor the kick they need to start. Fort Lauderdale’s heat and salt air age them faster than the manufacturer’s average. A Goodman that hums but won’t start on a July afternoon is almost always a dead capacitor. We stock OEM and quality aftermarket capacitors on every truck, and we test the replacement under load before we leave. Any capacitor we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
- Evaporator coil corrosion on the AVPTC air handler line. This is a South Florida signature, not a Goodman-specific defect. Galvanic corrosion eats at aluminum fins and copper tubing where the coil meets the cabinet, especially in homes close to the beach or the Intracoastal. On Goodman AVPTC air handlers, we check coil condition during every installation, and when corrosion has gone too far we recommend a new coil rather than a patch. A corroded coil leaks refrigerant slowly, and you don’t want to pay for a recharge every spring.
- Low refrigerant on GSX14 units with original line sets. We see a lot of Fort Lauderdale homes where the original line set from an old R-22 system was reused on a Goodman GSX14 that runs R-410A. If the old lines weren’t flushed properly or the flare fittings weren’t redone, you get slow seepage. During installation we pressure-test with nitrogen, pull a proper vacuum, and won’t reuse a line set that looks suspect. If your Goodman has needed refrigerant twice in two years, the problem is the line set or the flare, not the refrigerant itself.
- Blower motor failure on the ARUF air handler. The ARUF line uses an electronically commutated motor (ECM), which is efficient but picky about voltage drops and dirty filters. Fort Lauderdale homes with frequent power flickers during storm season see more ECM failures than inland homes. When we install a Goodman ARUF or replace an ECM, we check the incoming voltage and recommend a surge protector at the disconnect. It is a $40 part that saves a $600 motor.

Our Goodman AC Installation Process
Every Goodman installation in Fort Lauderdale follows the same path, and we explain each step before we start. No surprises, no mystery charges.
- 1
Call and schedule. You call (754) 354-7289, a live person answers, and we set a firm arrival window. No voicemail trees.
- 2
On-site load calculation and inspection. We measure the home, check the existing ductwork, the electrical panel, and the condition of the line set. This tells us what size Goodman you actually need, not just what size was there before. A lot of Fort Lauderdale homes have oversized units that short-cycle, which drives humidity up.
- 3
Written price. You get a written, itemized price before any tools come out. It covers the equipment, the labor, the electrical work, the drain line, and any permits. It does not change at the door.
- 4
Install day. Our uniformed, background-checked technicians arrive in the window we gave you. We remove the old unit, set the new Goodman on a level pad or rooftop curb, run a proper vacuum on the lines, and wire it up cleanly. We leave the job site cleaner than we found it, which is part of The Kingswell Way, not a courtesy we sometimes extend.
- 5
Startup and test. We fire the system, check refrigerant pressures, measure temperature drop across the coil, and test the drain line. You’ll see the numbers if you want to look over our shoulder.
- 6
Guarantee on paper. Before we leave, we hand you a written guarantee covering the installation work for 365 days. If anything we touched fails in that window, we return and correct it at no charge. The Goodman manufacturer warranty covers parts separately, and we register your equipment so the factory warranty starts without a hitch.

AfterWhat Goodman AC Installation Costs in Fort Lauderdale
A full Goodman AC installation in Fort Lauderdale runs $3,500 to $7,500. The spread comes down to three things.
- System size and efficiency. A 2-ton GSX14 single-stage condenser with a matching ARUF air handler sits at the lower end of the range. A 4-ton or 5-ton system, or a higher-SEER unit, climbs toward the top.
- Ductwork condition. If the existing ducts are in good shape, installation is mostly a swap. If the ducts are undersized, leaking, or lined with twenty years of Fort Lauderdale dust, you’ll pay to have them sealed or replaced.
- Electrical and code work. Older homes in Fort Lauderdale sometimes need a new disconnect, a breaker upgrade, or a surge protector at the unit. That adds material and labor, but we show it as a line item on the written estimate before work begins, never as a surprise at the end.

Why Fort Lauderdale Homeowners Call Cold Harbour Heating and Air Fort Lauderdale for Goodman Work
The Kingswell Way has five values, and they are not aspirational. Say the price before the work, show up in the window given, leave the place cleaner than found, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. We have operated that way since 2003, as an independently owned and operated member of the Kingswell network.
Every Goodman installation gets a written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If our work fails inside a year, we return and fix it at no charge. That is not verbal, not conditional, and not something you have to ask for. It is handed to you on paper before our technician leaves.
We also know what to do when a Goodman isn’t the answer. Our technicians are trained on nine major residential HVAC brands, including Carrier, Trane, and Lennox. If we look at your Fort Lauderdale home and a Goodman isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you plainly and price the alternative. Tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs, no guesswork, no runaround.
A cold harbour was a roadside shelter where travelers waited out the weather. Comfort in any season is the job, and we take it seriously.
FAQs
No. Goodman’s manufacturer warranty covers parts regardless of which state-licensed contractor installs the unit, as long as the system is registered and the installation follows the manufacturer’s specs. As an independent Goodman service provider, we register every system we install and we follow Goodman’s installation guidelines to the letter. Your warranty is protected.
Most Goodman installations can be scheduled within a few days, and the job itself takes one day. If your AC is down in the middle of a Fort Lauderdale summer, call (754) 354-7289 and tell us what is happening. We’ll give you a real answer about scheduling, not a vague “we’ll be out sometime.”
Repair is usually the better call if the unit is under ten years old and the repair is under $650. Replacement makes more sense if the compressor has failed, the coil is leaking, or you have already spent money on refrigerant twice in the last two years. We’ll tell you which side of that line you’re on, and we’ll put both numbers in writing so you can decide without pressure.
We use OEM Goodman parts whenever the part is under manufacturer warranty or when a third-party part would compromise the system. For wear items like capacitors and contactors, we stock quality aftermarket parts that meet or exceed OEM spec, and we tell you which one is going in and why. You are never paying OEM prices for an aftermarket part without knowing it.
It covers all the work we performed during the installation, including the electrical connections, the line set, the drain line, and the startup. If anything we touched fails within 365 days, we return and correct it at no additional charge. The Goodman factory warranty covers the equipment itself separately, and we handle the registration paperwork so you do not miss the window.
